Born on the 12th of August 1591, Saint Louise De Marrillac was denied entry into the Franciscans due to her frail health. She was married to Antonio Le Gras on the 5th of February 1613. Upon becoming a widow on the 21st of December 1625, she took a vow of widowhood and chose Saint Vincent de Paul as her spiritual guide. Under his guidance, she devoted herself to the service of the poor and to visiting the Confraternities of Charity. On the 29th of November 1633, she played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Company of the Daughters of Charity. She passed away on the 15th of March 1660. She was beatified on the 9th of May 1920, and was canonized on the 11th of March 1934. On the 10th of February 1960, Pope John XXIII declared her the universal patroness of all Christian social works.
