The Indian Province felt the need of having a separate Minor Seminary in the late 1980's as the Minor seminary at Baripada could not accommodate all the recruits. With this intention, one hector of land was acquired in Bogadi village in the southern part of Mysore city in 1988. But the water source was insufficient for an institution. Meanwhile, a vast plot of land was purchased in Belwadi village in the northern side of Mysore, in order to develop a farm for the Congregation. Since there was enough water resource and a large area, it was decided to build a Seminary there. The construction began in 1990. The students recruited in 1991 were accommodated in the farmhouse. The seminary construction was completed and His Excellency Rt. Rev. Dr. Francis Michaelappa, the Bishop of Mysore blessed it on 27thSeptember, 1992. In 1993, De Paul Seminary was erected a Canonical House and late Fr. Michael Kuzhikattuchalil was appointed the first Superior.
